DANCEHALL chanter Sniper Storm said he will always regard Bulawayo as his second home since his music has penetrated the city as evidenced by the support he receives from the city’s fans. The musician, who started his career in 2003 with the hit Kubhinya, has had a somewhat rocky career, but has steadily risen and appears destined to remain in the game.
Speaking after his performance at Club Forty-40 on Friday, the chanter, famously known as Musoja, said Bulawayo was one of the cities in the country where he had a legion of fans.
“I am honoured to be in Bulawayo again for yet another show. Bulawayo has always been a wonderful place to be due to the support and comfort that I have found in the city.
“I never think twice when I have been booked for a show in Bulawayo and I hope the relationship that we have built with the fans and promoters from this city will grow bigger,” he said.
The chanter said what kept him in the game for all this time was maturity.
Sniper who is one of the most talented and experienced dancehall artistes in the country started the urban grooves movement with the likes of Delani, David Chifunyise, Willom Tight and Potato in the late 90s.
“I have matured both as a character and as an artiste and you will find it is the same story with my music,” said The General, as he prefers to be called.
The musician said his seventh album Silver Bullet, which was released six months back, became widely popular and got a good response from his fans.
“Silver bullet is doing very well since it was released in April. The album grew widely popular just a few weeks after it was released and the response it has got is unbelievable,” said Sniper.
His latest song Silver Bullet takes a dig at his rivals describing himself as having a thick skin that can withstand any attack from his enemies.
On the album he collaborated with Jah Prayzah on the track titled Gotsi Papata.
Other tracks are Mbama Yemupurisa, Ndisimudzeiwo, Musikana Anetwundebvu and Silver Bullet, among a total of 12.
The General said of all songs on the album, Ndisimudzeiwo and Musikana Anetwundebvu – collaborations with a local female chanter Da Rule – had become popular with fans.
Starting his career in 2003, The General released his debut album Ndakabata Mic in 2005 followed by The Voice in 2009.
He released Ghetto Gospel in 2010 followed by Salute the General in 2011, Attention in 2012 and Dongfeng last year.
