Minister Moyo commissions classroom block

PRIMARY and Secondary Education Minister, Torerayi Moyo, commissioned a new classroom block at Selukwe Chrome High School in Shurugwi on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in the Government’s efforts to improve the quality of education.

During the event, Minister Moyo handed over 1 000 tablets to various schools in the district, courtesy of Anglo-American and World Vision Zimbabwe.

“The development is a demonstration that the Second Republic is committed to improving the quality of education for the learners,” Minister Moyo said.

“Today, we gather to celebrate a significant accomplishment in our educational journey — the commissioning of a new 1×4 classroom block and the handover of 1 100 tablets to our schools.”

The new classroom block is designed to provide a modern, safe, and conducive learning environment, aligning with the Government’s Heritage-Based Curriculum. This curriculum aims to empower learners with skills rooted in Zimbabwe’s rich heritage while preparing them for the challenges of the 21st century.

Minister Moyo emphasised the importance of technology in enhancing the educational experience.

“The donation of 1 100 tablets further enhances this educational experience by integrating technology into our classrooms. These tablets will facilitate access to interactive and dynamic learning materials that are aligned with the curriculum.”

The tablets are expected to bridge the gap between theory and practice, enabling learners to conduct research, collaborate on group projects, and develop essential digital literacy skills.

Minister Moyo commended the partnership between the Government, Anglo-American and World Vision Zimbabwe, highlighting the impact of private sector involvement in infrastructure development.

“President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 is not just a roadmap for economic transformation, it is a holistic approach that integrates social justice and human development,” Minister Moyo said.

“Together, we can turn the tide of educational performance, ensuring that our children are not only equipped with knowledge but also with the skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world,” he said.

The Government is committed to realising this vision, ensuring that no one is left behind on the journey towards a brighter future.

The STEP-UP project, launched in May 2022, has achieved notable success in enhancing educational access for marginalised learners in Zimbabwe.

Key accomplishments include the rehabilitation of 10 classroom blocks, distribution of 22 digital learning suitcases, installation of solar power in 20 schools, and empowerment of 1 322 out-of-school learners through vocational skills training.
