WOMEN Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has arrived in Lupane, Matabeleland North Province, for the official launch of the International Day of Families commemorations.

The International Day of Families is observed annually on May 15.

In 2026, the global event is being held under the theme: “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing.”

The observance highlights the urgent need for family-oriented policies such as parental leave, affordable childcare and income support to reduce inequalities and improve child wellbeing.

The event in Lupane is running concurrently with the three-day Provincial Business Expo, which started on Wednesday.

The expo is aimed at creating market opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the province.

Minister Mutsvangwa, who is accompanied by Deputy Minister Kiven Mutimbanyoka and Permanent Secretary Dr Mavis Sibanda, began the programme by touring exhibition stands by various SMEs and schools in the province.

Exhibitors are showcasing a wide range of products including agricultural produce, clothing, detergents, timber products and art products, among others.
