MINISTER of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Manicaland, Advocate Misheck Mugadza has said that sport is dear to him and would wish to see Zimbabwe prosper in various disciplines.
Minister Mugadza was speaking at Hartsfield Rugby Grounds in Bulawayo where he had attended the inter-provincial match between Bulawayo Select and Manicaland on Saturday afternoon.
He said sport was one of the major topics discussed during the Pre-Budget Seminar for Zimbabwe’s 2025 National Budget, which was held at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre last week. He added that sport plays a crucial role in taking the youth off drugs and substances.
“Sport in general plays a crucial role in taking the youths off drugs and substances, hence the need to support it. Sport is the way to go.
“We have our children going into drugs and everything that is bad but it’s because we are probably not giving them enough support in the right things.
“We were just participating in the Pre-Budget Seminar and these things were coming up. Sport was very topical and many of us advocated that we should support sport even more than what we are doing now. Like I said, there is the issue of drugs, we need to take them away from there,” said Minister Mugadza.
Minister Mugadza went on to say that the upgrading of facilities in the country is their main agenda and that will help yield positive results. He believes more has to be done to assist sport growth in the country.

“Also, there is the issue of nationhood in sport and competition. So, as a country we really need to do more when it comes to sport.
“We need to uplift the facilities, we need to participate in all competitions and I am happy with the coming in of the Second Republic.
“It has been helpful, things were worse before but now strides have been made and we are moving in the right direction. I can foresee a situation where, in the near future our infrastructure, be it grounds or tracks, will be top notch.
“This will then lead to the obvious success that follows good organisation,” he said.
The Minister is also an avid rugby faithful.
