Minister Owen Ncube commissions 25 tractors to enhance rural infrastructure in Midlands Province

Midlands Province, 19 September 2024— THE Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Midlands Owen Ncube, officially commissioned 25 tractors today for the Rural Infrastructural Development Agency (RIDA).


This initiative aims to bolster agricultural productivity and improve rural road maintenance across the province.

During the commissioning ceremony, Minister Ncube emphasised the importance of timely deployment of the tractors to facilitate tillage and upkeep of the extensive 4,077 km rural road network under RIDA’s jurisdiction. He stated, “These tractors are not just machines; they are vital tools that will support our farmers and ensure that our rural roads are in good condition for transportation and access to markets.”

The introduction of the tractors is part of a broader Government strategy to enhance rural infrastructure, which is crucial for economic development and food security in the region. Local farmers and community leaders have expressed optimism that improved road conditions will lead to better access to agricultural inputs and markets, ultimately contributing to increased productivity and livelihoods in the Midlands Province.
