Minister suspends Zvimba councillor

Mashonaland West Bureau

Zvimba’s Ward 16 councillor Spenser Magaya has been suspended by Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo while allegations of misconduct and abuse of office are being investigated concerning his role in the construction of schools.

He was suspended in terms of the amended Rural District Councils Act which ensures sound local governance.

Magaya is accused of usurping powers and responsibilities of the council management during construction at Rafingora Primary School and Rafingora Secondary School.

“You fraudulently demanded payment from Rafingora Secondary School for transportation of the building materials from Rafingora Primary to Secondary School, thereby prejudicing the secondary school a substantial amount of money,” alleged Minister Moyo in the suspension letter dated January 21.

Magaya was also accused of appointing an outsider to monitor and supervise construction of Rafingora Primary and Secondary schools, the job of the School Development Committee and council officials.
