Energy and Power Development Minister Samuel Undenge’s wife Letina has taken her maid, who had worked for only a week, to court accusing her of stealing property, including cosmetics, all worth $241.

Landena Chingwena (40) pleaded not guilty when she appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Vongai Muchuchuti last week charged with theft.

She was remanded on free bail to tomorrow for trial continuation.

Chingwena defended herself arguing that she had not taken Undenge’s property and that she had never left the house since the time of her employment.

“I bought my own face powder in town for $1,” she said. “I did not take anything from them. How can I even think of stealing with the kind of security that is at the house?”

The prosecutor Mr Desire Chidanire alleged that on May 12, Chingwena’s handbag was searched by the police who were on duty at Undenge’s home.

The court heard that the police found a pair of scissors and Black Opal face powder in the bag.

It is alleged that Chingwena also took two skirts, three blouses and one evening gown.

The total value of the property stolen was $241.
