“We are looking at individuals and companies that have distinguished themselves in the ICT sector. As a ministry we are committed to the growth of ICTs in the country,” he said.

He said there would be 19 categories that will include the most improved ICT company, top ICT company of the year, top ICT project of the year, top ICT compliant rural and urban school. He added that one of the key areas that have put Zimbabwe on the map has been the growth in mobile penetration from a mere 13 percent in 2009 to 80 percent in 2012.

This has captured the attention of the International Telecommunications Union and has seen the country being ranked the second fastest ICT developing nation in the world after Ghana.

Minister Chamisa said his ministry was in the process of holding e-learning programmes to train the trainer, which are the teachers so that they are not left behind in this digital transformation. He added that they have been training civil servants on website content management system so that they run their own websites as most Government ministries are now online.

“As Government we are migrating to an e-government framework and we have serious work on the ground to construct ICT centres as pilot projects in Mubaira, Mapisa, Mutoko, Murambinda and  Sadza. Mubaira and Sadza are already operational and we will continue rolling out the programme in phases,” he said.
