Zimbabwe – vanished into thin air, leaving many people wondering what happened.
Now the pageant, which was growing in popularity every year, is back.
In an interview, the founder of the rural pageant, Sipho Mazibuko, and her production team last week said the groundwork was already underway to relaunch the once prominent modelling programme.
“We have already begun venue hunting for all our shows countrywide but at the moment we are looking at Matabeleland North for our first show,” said Mazibuko.
She said Miss Rural Zimbabwe was officially back and this time around bigger.
“I decided to retain the team that I previously worked with because I have been watching them over the past few years and they are the best there is in the country,” said Mazibuko. She said the team comprised Babongile Sikhonjwa, who was going to lead the team, and Ricky Nathanson, one of the city’s modelling stalwarts.
“We are not yet very sure but the launch will be in May, but at the moment we are putting everything together,” she said.
She said they were searching for suitable venues to host their beauty contests.
“We are expecting this pageant to go places, out of the Zimbabwean frontiers and some other countries in the region have indicated that they want to have this pageant in their countries,” said Mazibuko.
She said they were inviting the business community to come on board.
“We promise that the show will scout for all the rough diamonds, polish them and let the world see beauty in its natural essence.
“Anyone with a keen interest in uplifting the girl child is the right person we need in supporting Miss Rural Zimbabwe,” said Mazibuko.
Sikhonjwa said the country should brace for a string of well-organised shows in all the country’s 10 provinces.
