adminweek after the signing ceremony, GreenCard Medical Aid Society chief executive Mr Simon Tapfumaneyi said cancer was now a threat to humanity the world over.
“In the case of Zimbabwe, focus has been placed on communicable diseases like HIV and Aids, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria.
“It is against this background that GreenCard Medical Aid Society, working together with the Miss Universities Trust, seeks to highlight the plight of cancer patients in Zimbabwe,” he said.
The GreenCard Cancer Awareness Ambassador’s roles include working together with relevant experts in researching, documenting and highlighting the extent of cancer in Zimbabwe.
Her specific duties will be to raise civil society’s awarenes of the disease in the country and response frameworks and limitations.
In her response to the task, the lanky 26-year-old beauty said she was delighted to work with GreenCard and called for support from different ministries.
“As I accept this demanding task, wish to call upon ministries of health and finance to work with us with a common purpose of realising that a lot needs to be done in the cancer sector,” beamed Shumba.
She said: “One of my mammoth tasks during my community work in 2012-2013 is to strongly advocate for a good working relationship with a positive- minded donors who are willing to help in establishing at least one cancer treatment centre in all 10 provinces in the country. This is a tall order but
it is achievable.”
The reigning queen shrugged off stiff competition from 23 other contestants from thecountry’s State and privately-run universities who were vying for the title last month.
