Missing boy’s family positively identifies clothes

“We were called by police to try and identify the remains since our son went missing at the Harare Exhibition Park,” Ms Diki said.
“I can confirm that the clothes were similar to those Given was wearing on the fateful day. However, we cannot conclude that the bones belong to him as they appeared to be of an older person.”

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau said the identification of the clothes cannot conclusively link the missing child to the skeletal remains.
“The parents of the missing boy positively identified the clothes as those that were worn by their son the day he was last seen. To us the police, that alone is not conclusive.”

Insp Sabau said a post-mortem and forensic examinations to ascertain the identity of the skeleton will be carried out today.
“Despite this development, it is not yet conclusive until we exhaust our investigations,” he said.

A Zimbabwe Agricultural Society groundsman discovered the remains on Sunday while clearing a piece of land for farming inside the Harare Exhibition Park.
A source close to investigations said a DNA test had to be carried out before people conclude on the identity of the child.

“We expect the test to be carried out soon, although the responsible pathologist is in South Africa at the moment,” he said.
The source said the pathologist was expected back today.
