DANCEHALL artiste and disc jockey, Macfarlene Matemba, better known as Russmacaz has embarked on a venture to popularise dancehall music by creating mix tapes for upcoming artistes with renowned musicians so that the genre gets more recognition in Mutare. Russmacazz said he wanted Mutare artistes to have a fair share of the market.“Artistes in Mutare are struggling to be at the same level with their Harare counterparts. We have realised that Harare-based artistes get much attention and this should change because everyone should benefit especially when it comes to enjoying airplay on national radio stations.
“I am hoping that after the creation of this mix tape, artistes from Mutare will be appreciated for their talent. Almost always, the great talent we have in this part of the country is wasted because the artistes do not have a following,” he said.
Russmacazz said he would be working with the likes of DJ Staera to put Mutare artistes on the map.
Said Russmacazz: “I am working with DJ Staera to create the mix tape which will feature upcoming artistes like young Taliban, Lionel Vibes and Captain Chris. Staera just released his 17th volume mix tape and it is currently on demand and this is how he helps artistes in Harare to find their feet in the industry. I am therefore hopeful that if we try the same thing for Mutare, we will be successful.”
The duo intends to host a sound clash soon where upcoming dancehall artistes in Mutare will converge to compete for a price which is yet to be announced.
