MUSICIAN MJ Sings has described 2025 as a progressive year for his career, capped off by his seventh nomination at the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA).

The artiste is nominated in the Outstanding Kwaito/House/Gqom category, going up against La Dee, Jaycee, and Calvin Mangena.

MJ Sings expressed his excitement at being recognised among top talents in a competitive field.
“I’ve achieved so much this year, and this nomination is just a special cherry on top. For now, we wait for the big day.
“This is my seventh BAA nomination. I’ve previously won two awards, Outstanding Music Video and Outstanding Amapiano/House Artiste in 2023,” he said.

He added that the nomination also plays a role in documenting his journey and inspiring the next generation of artists.
“Seeing our names on the nomination list is always an honour. These milestones become the traces the next generation of stars will pick up from, so I’m definitely honoured,” he said.

The recognition, he said, reinforces his commitment to his craft.
“I feel more motivated. It’s funny because my team laughs at how I always push harder and celebrate less, as if I just started. That’s the competitive workaholic in me,” he said.

MJ Sings highlighted his broader vision for Zimbabwean creatives.
“I strongly believe I represent a number of creatives who’ve had a hard time fitting into the Bulawayo space and thus created our own lane that doesn’t limit artistic expression. The world is bigger than the city, and I will continue to show and prove that. Umkhulu umsebenzi,” he said. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
