familiarise with the unfamiliar and to come to grips with what had been presented to him as a hostile and unforgiving world.
“Armed with basic O-Level education the young man has invented numerous novelty gadgets that include humidity and measuring instrument that is customised for sugarcane planters in the Lowveld and some of his inventions have been hijacked from him,” said Robert Muganda, who is the media and communications executive for Buy Zimbabwe.
“Furthermore, having lived in Masvingo and confined to that part of town Gocheki lacked exposure to the business world and he was alienated by some of his fellow contestants.
“The inventor is a true example of a rare but unpolished gem, I believe he was also dealing with people that chose not to understand him and instead of unlocking the value in him some of the contestants saw him as a distraction.
“Gocheki is not the most eloquent and from day one he struggled to fit in,” said Rumbi Matinanga My Own Boss public relations executive.
When given the leadership reins by the chief anchor Mr Nigel Chanakira to lead Alkandros, a salient “down with Gocheki campaign” among his fellow teammates came to full throttle and there was a covert mutiny that took place the whole duration of the National Foods task.
As he led a group of protestants his leadership skills came to test.
It became apparent that plotting and conniving became the order of the day as Gocheki’s boardroom report and invoices that proved actual sales disappeared from his briefcase an hour before the boardroom session with Chanakira.
“One week was too little for Gocheki to grasp the concept and to take the leadership role.
“The team was not ready to accept Gocheki as a leader,” said Sandisiwe Mahlangu a contestant from Bulawayo.
In his defense Gocheki stated that “I led several protestants critics with no solutions.”
Kudakwashe Gwasera who clearly doubted Gocheki`s leadership, showed reluctancy in getting commands from the inventor and viewed him as a disaster waiting to happen defiantly said ” How can someone follow a person who is heading towards a cliff?”
Having spared his head from the hangmen`s noose on the previous task Chanakira was left with the cumbersome task of eliminating the inventor.
“Everything in an organization rises and falls on leadership, an organization needs a leader who can inspire and motivate his team to achieve the company’s set goals. You were leading a fairly dysfunctional team. I gave you an opportunity to lead and to prove your leadership skills and you failed to prove your mettle as a leader and I have no choice but to let you go home.
For Gocheki it was not all gloom and doom as Chanakira offered to enrol him for a Leadership training programme at his Success and Motivation Institute an opportunity of a lifetime and African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation is assisting Gocheki with protection of his intellectual property from hijackers.
“The great thing is that the young man has not yet been disheartened by cunning people that hijack his intellectual property instead enrolled with the Masvingo Polytechnic to perfect his workman ship and his understanding of business and other well wishers like Chanakira have offered to train him and ARIPO has offered to patent his work,” said Robert Muganda.
