Modern parking system ready

City Parking is next week expected to introduce a new parking system in Harare’s Central Business District.
The system would help in improving accountability and automatically produce reports of vehicles parked. As part of the new parking system, hand-held terminals would be used in all streets of Harare.

City Parking Private customer care officer, Mr Francis Mandaza said training of staff is currently underway on how the new parking system would work.

“We are moving with technology in line with the City of Harare vision to become a world class city by 2025. The new system is IT-driven with real time transactions and will produce machine-generated receipts as compared to the old manual system where manual receipts are being issued. The system enhances accountability and automatically generates reports,” said Mr Mandaza.

Mr Mandaza said the new parking system is prepaid, which means that motorists would receive a log-in receipt before they park their vehicle and a log-out receipt when they drive off.

“After payment is made, a log-in receipt is printed showing the registration number, entry time and the payment,” he said.

City Parking urged motorists to display their parking receipt on their vehicle dashboards or on wipers as expected to avoid inconveniences of having their vehicles being clamped.

“The receipt must be displayed prominently on wipers or dashboards as proof of payment. On driving off, the driver is given a log-out receipt indicating the parking duration,” said Mr Mandaza.
