SOUTH Africa–based arts promoter, curator and businessman Richard Dube has been roped in as Mojo Morgan’s project manager.
Mojo, a member of the Grammy Award–winning reggae group Morgan Heritage, has worked with Dube for several years but finally settled for a new role.
The pair’s partnership has been rekindled as Mojo embarks on a world and national schools tour in Jamaica promoting his latest single, “Spirit.”
The Caribbean island visit will see Mojo sharing motivational talks centred on overcoming adversity and real-life lessons from his journey as an artist, entrepreneur, and father.
Mojo will also perform the track “Spirit,” with selected students joining him on stage.
In an interview with the Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Dube said he was relishing the challenge after being appointed one of the producers for Morgan Heritage’s upcoming shows in South Africa.
“I was chosen to be one of the live show producers for the South African market when they were on their Island Vibes African tour in 2022,” he said.
“With that being said, my company, Gumption Inc. Entertainment was supposed to stage the show with them, which we successfully curated.
“The whole project was nicely curated — from the venue and sound to marketing — and we started marketing because it was supposed to also go to Zimbabwe, Malawi, and other African countries.
“So the relationship started from there, because they could see Gumption Inc. Entertainment’s and my work ethic. We continued being in touch, including in a WhatsApp group with the family, including the late Peter Morgan.
“Mojo Morgan and I became good friends and continued being in touch.”
Dube said the Morgan Heritage camp keeps in contact with him wherever they travel.
“Whenever they travel, whether to America or Australia, we are always in touch. I am actually scheduled to go to the UK in August to assist them with one or two things.
“As a project manager within the Zimbabwean music industry, you have to study your craft — that’s my belief. You have to understand the game, because if you don’t understand the game, the game will underestimate you.”
Dube has 32 years in South Africa as a club and liquor brand owner.
Mojo was born in Brooklyn and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, United States.
Mojo has won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album as part of Morgan Heritage. Mojo and his group helped bring authentic Jamaican roots back to the world stage.
Today he stands at the forefront of a movement blending legacy with innovation, family with business, and culture with commerce.
