With a new album looming, Victoria Falls fusion band Mokoomba keeps on notching up the milestones after the announcement that they will perform at this yeara��s New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest alongside the likes of Nas and Stevie Wonder.
The last few years has seen the rise of the Mokoomba brand, despite remaining largely anonymous on the local scene.
The group was billed as one of the acts to watch from around the globe by Britaina��s Guardian while they made history last year when they became the first group from Zimbabwe to perform at the world famous Apollo Theatre.
Last week, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival announced its line-up for 2017, scheduled for April 28 to May 7.
This yeara��s fest will feature luminaries like Abdullah Ibrahim and Ekay, Hugh Masekela, Stevie Wonder, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Maroon 5, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, Kings of Leon, Usher and the Roots, Earth, Wind and Fire and NAS featuring the Soul Rebels.
The Zimbabwean group will perform during the festa��s first weekend.
In addition to participation in that fest, the group are also on an ongoing tour of Europe that began in Germany on Thursday and will take them to Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark and Austria.
This is all while they prepare for their release of Luyando, their album which was preceded by the release of their single Mokole, a song that gives a nod to the groupa��s Victoria Falls roots as it means a�?the smoke that thundersa�?.
The groupa��s album will be released on 10 March. .
