Acclaimed Afro-fusion band Mokoomba staged a memorable show at the Book Café over the weekend.

The Victoria Falls-based group proved they can penetrate the local market with ease when they thrilled the cosmopolitan crowd that thronged the venue.

This comes at a time when the group’s manager Marcus Gora has publicly lashed out at local promoters for opting for foreign entertainers at the expense of locals at their big shows.

Friday night event saw the well-travelled Mokoomba putting their best foot forward and dishing the very best of contemporary music.

“It is always value for money at their (Mokoomba) shows. Their act is world class although I don’t know a single word from their songs,” said an excited fan Sam Reglin.

True to the Highlands based fan, the crowd was getting down to the music that was being sung in Tonga and in some instances Shona, Bemba and Chewa.

Other die-hard fans could be heard singing along to the music and the band members showcased their brilliance in playing a variety of instruments.

The gig was the second edition of in a line of joint shows between Jive Zimbabwe and Book Café.

It was also another success story, after the Victor Kunonga show last month, which pioneered the collaborative projects and adoption of the “no poster” campaign when marketing musical shows.

The campaign is in line with Minister of Environment Water and Climate, Saviour Kasukuwere’s call for artistes to desist from polluting the city with posters.
