A HARARE woman dragged her husband to court claiming $184 000 in maintenance for their three-year-child.
Barbra Chidhakwa claimed that her husband, Mark Chikondora, was neglecting his child.
However, presiding magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Chikondora to pay $60 000, school fees directly to the school and buy the child uniforms twice a year.
“I want $184 000 for our three-year-old daughter.
“My husband is a money changer. He can afford that amount I claimed because per month he earns US$320.
“He used to give me US$400 per month for safe keeping.
“The reason I applied for maintenance is because he doesn’t sleep at home and returns home when he has no money,” said Chidhakwa.
In response, Chikondora said $184 000 was out of his reach.
“I cannot afford the money she claimed because zvaizvezvi masango matema handimboiwane.
“I can afford $17 000 only because right now I am staying with my daughter.
“I wonder why she applied for maintenance because I am the one who is paying rent and food.
“I also have another child that also needs to be maintained too,” he said.
