LOCAL celebrities said they spent Mother’s Day reflecting on the role played by their mothers in shaping their careers and characters, with most being thankful for their contribution.
Yesterday was Mother’s Day and people all over the world spent the day doing something special for their mothers with some going to social media and posting pictures of their mothers, wishing them a happy mother’s day.
Musician Cynthia Mare said a day does not pass by without remembering her late mother.
“I remember my mother all the time in different situations. What I miss about her is her excellent cooking that rubbed off on me.
“People should honour their mothers not once a year but every day as they’re very special people in our lives,” said Mare.
Comedian Babongile Sikhonjwa said he spent the day reminiscing on the love his late mother gave him.
“It’s a day for me to be thankful for the contribution my mother made in my life. Although she is late I’ll never forget and acknowledge what she did for me,” said Sikhonjwa.
He said he would spend the day by taking the mother of his child out for dinner to celebrate.
Fashionista Mbo Mahocs said she spent the day with her mother who was not feeling well.
She said Mother’s Day was a day to remember how mothers around the world were a blessing to families and societies.
“I love my mother and everything she has done for me. It’s a blessing that we’ve mothers who are the backbone of our homes, lives and society. You can’t live without them,” said Mahocs.
“My mother shaped me as she was very strict and didn’t accept nonsensical behaviour from us when we were growing up. I’d love to thank her for that.”
Former Miss Personality Lungile Mathe popularly known as Cyclone Ree said she spent Mother’s Day at West Park cemetery visiting her mother’s grave.
“Mothers are the ones who brought us into this world and we should appreciate them with all our hearts. Mothers’ day for me is everyday as I remember mine always. One day I’ll be a mother when I get the right man to marry me,” said Cyclone Ree.
Mothers’ Day is a modern celebration honouring one’s own mother as well as motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations honouring family members, such as Father’s Day.
