Motoring Club to prop up junior motocross racing

MUTARE’s sole motorcycling club, Motoring Club, will this year set out to prop up junior motocross racing in the province, given the rising popularity of the sport in the country in the past two years. Motocross racing is an off-road motorcycle racing sport usually held on enclosed off-road circuits. Motoring Club newly re-elected chairman Samuel Tauya said the club would try to support junior motocross racing in the province.

“For the past two years we have had a few junior racers coming to the club, which shows the potential of the sport in the province.
“The sport is also fast gaining popularity in the country, especially among junior racers. As Motoring Club we will work towards hosting a national tournament in Mutare in a bid to promote the sport,” said Tauya.

Junior motocross racing has been growing in popularity in Zimbabwe in the past two years.
Young riders like Daiyaan Manuel, Regan Wasmuth, Tristain Grainger, Kuda Mhene (Jnr) and Emmanuel Bako have represented the country well at various regional competitions as well as the country’s top young female rider, Tanya Muzinda.

Motocross racing is predominantly an elite sport because of its costly nature.
Tauya, however, said they would research more on the sport and see how they could press forward the initiative to preserve the fundamental nature of the motor sport club.
At the recently held annual general meeting, Tauya retained his post as the chairman of the club.

The election, which basically returned most of the executive members, saw Greenmore Bhasera being elected vice-chairman, Lovemore Chitima secretary and Josephat Rushinga- treasurer.

Patrick Matsanga was the only addition after being elected president, while former president Naboth Mbawa was elevated to honorary life member.
Tauya said a three-member committee that will co-ordinate entertainment, motor-sport and maintenance divisions would be co-opted next week.
