FOR weeks now, Equatorial Guinea’s name has been trending around the world for all the wrong reasons.
The sex scandals involving Baltasar Ebang Egonga, in which he was filmed having sex with about over 400 women, put the country under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
That some of these videos featured scores of married women in adulterous relationships, only compounded the damage which this scandal inflicted on Equatorial Guinea.
But, it has not only been doom and gloom.

The country’s footballers have been writing a success story which has seen them qualify for the 2025 AFCON finals.
The team, nicknamed Nzalang Nacional, finished second behind Algeria in their group.
This means that something positive is now coming out of Equatorial Guinea.
Images have emerged on social media showing some Equatorial Guinea fans even wearing replica jerseys of their national team with the name EGONGA 400 at the back of the shirt.
These fans appear to find a light element of fun in the scandal which has dominated their country in the past few weeks.
At least, they now have something to look forward to which will not generate negative headlines – their team’s appearance at the 2025 AFCON finals.
