HEAVYWEIGHT boxer Elvis Moyo is looking forward to his first engagement of the year in the ring next month.
Moyo who doubles up as a mixed martial arts fighter at his Edenvale base in Johannesburg, South Africa, says he has been in touch with Charles Manyuchi with a view of taking part in the Trababalas Series.
Moyo has not fought since losing his Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) 127 when he lost to Matunga Djikasa of the Democratic Republic of Congo in September.
He was due to fight in Harare in November last year but the tournament never materialised.
“I am coming to box in Zimbabwe in February under the Charles Manyuchi Promotions in Mutare,” said Moyo.
Moyo says he did not take a break during the off-season and believes he will be in good stead to fight
“Mixed Martial Arts has been quiet. Yeah I will be ready, I never took much of a break, so I will double down on my sessions. Charlie will advise me about opponent, but definitely an international,” said Moyo adding that he spent most of the holidays chilling with family.
Moyo made a stunning return to EFC after 2 407 days to capture the EFC Worldwide Heavyweight Championship from knockout specialist, Anthony Morel.
Contacted for more detail, Manyuchi said he would release his calendar of events on Wednesday.
He hinted that he would like to take his Trababalas all over the country this year, promoting boxing and sports tourism.
“We will be in a position to release our calendar on Wednesday after serious meetings we will have,” said Manyuchi.
Moyo had the world on him last year after winning heavyweight title on EFC, which he lost five months later on a technicality after failing to make the weight.
Street fighting in Nkulumane in the late 1990s and early 2000s forced him to join combat sport.
“I originally come from a suburb where street fighting was a daily thing. After seeing no safety in running away, I figured better to enter a Karate dojo. It was the best decision I ever made. I have never looked back since and never stopped,” Moyo told MMASucka, a media house that specialises in mixed martial arts.
