ZIMBABWE and Mozambique must explore investment opportunities in the areas of transport and tourism, and strengthen business co-operation for positive economic development, Manica Province’s Permanent Secretary has said.
In an interview on Tuesday in Mutare, Mrs Francisca Muluana, who headed the Mozambican delegation that attended Independence Day celebrations at Sakubva Stadium, said there were several economic opportunities the two countries could exploit in a win-win situation.
The Mozambican delegation had graced the Uhuru celebrations at the behest of the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Cde Mandi Chimene.
“We appreciate the positive co-operation that exists between Manica and Manicaland provinces. There are opportunities for both sides in terms of transport connection from Manicaland to Manica. There are also opportunities in areas of tourism and hospitality.
“Mozambican and Zimbabwean governments must make effective use of the Beira Corridor for the transportation of goods and other lines of communication. If we get good road network it means the transportation of commodities will be faster and cheaper,” she said.
Mrs Muluana said African countries must unite and exploit natural resources for the benefit of the locals.
She urged business partnerships between Zimbabwean and Mozambican investors, saying it will result in a beneficial win-win situation based on trust and mutual understanding.
“By so doing there will be a great exchange of technical expertise that is good for business and production. If we come together in business we achieve great things and do great things for our two nations,” she said.
Mrs Muluana said Zimbabwean investors must not be scared by the activities of Renamo which she said were under control and not a threat.
“Our Government is busy organising to talk with the leaders of Renamo, but there are no significant problems regarding their activities because people are travelling peacefully,” she said.
Cde Chimene, who was accompanied by Manicaland Provincial Administrator, Mr Fungai Mbetsa, bade the delegation farewell and thanked them for gracing the independence celebrations.
She also urged the need for continued co-operation between the two countries.
