MOZAMBICAN-based dancehall musician, Shakemore Matenga, whose stage name is Fire Rudman, will next weekend officially launch his new album, Ndinunureyi, which hit the streets last week. Matenga, who is based in Chimoio, said in an interview recently, since its release last week, the eight-track project was fast gaining ground in Mozambique’s entertainment industry.

He said he was aiming at popularising his music to local dancehall music lovers by holding live shows in local venues. Tracks on the album include Vatipire, Masimba, Yangu patani, Nhamo urimbo, Musikana ndokuda and Handaisaziva featuring Flash Gee and Ras Toshie. It was produced at Celso Production in Mozambique.

“I was born in Zimbabwe and I grew up there. After realising that my music has been more popular in Mozambique, I intend to penetrate into Zim’s entertainment market and make a mark.

“I will launch my album in Zimbabwe and make a date with my fans in Mutare and beyond. Most of my songs are based on personal life experiences. I grew up in the dusty streets of Sakubva where I learnt a lot of things,” he said.

This is Matenga’s third offering after his ground-breaking project, Maplates neMapoto and second album, Mwando wakadzora which features the hit, Mai vevana.

The 36-year-old musician started singing when he was a member of Chakohwa High School choir 20 years ago. He started writing own songs in 1999. He joined Mozambican entertainment group Quatro Punch Music International in 2008 as a song writer and a singer.
