A MOZAMBICAN security guard appeared in court on Monday facing attempted murder charges.

Wilson Mlambo (30) was remanded in custody and was not asked to plead when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Poterai Gwezhira, facing attempted murder charges as defined in Section 189 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act), Chapter 9:23.

“On December 17 at round 4am, at Mudima Forestry in Cashel Valley, Mlambo was manning the guardroom when Bryan Jonasi was brought to the room by Nzwanai Mangezi and Balance Muchongweni. They had arrested him for stealing timber from their employer,” said Mr Fletcher Karombe who prosecuted.

It is further alleged that Mlambo took five litres of petrol and poured it on Jonasi who was seated next to an open fire resulting in him burning.

He was rescued by Balance Muchongweni who covered him with a blanket  and doused off the flame.
