Regai Tsunga
I AM deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Professor Furusa, the Vice Chancellor of Africa University located in our Mutasa South Constituency. Before my election to Parliament, I worked with Prof Furusa in charity work under the auspices of the Africa University Charity Golf Committee.
He demonstrated unparalleled philanthropic demeanour as several orphanages around Manicaland Province benefited from his work.
As Vice Chancellor, Prof Furusa was visionary, hardworking and impactful. He succeeded in making Africa University an international institution of choice for both students and academic staff. The university has become a leader, not only in teaching, research and community service, but also in innovation and industrialisation as evidenced by their several patented products on the market and the high quality of their educational inputs, processes, outputs, outcomes and impacts.
Prof Furusa leaves an indelible mark on the international academic landscape through his immeasurable contribution to manpower development in Zimbabwe and elsewhere. Our Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development always wanted to visit Africa University as a model innovation hub amongst institutions of higher learning, thanks to Prof Furusa.
We are all poorer without him. My heartfelt condolences to Mrs Furusa, family and clan during their time of grief and mourning. Many his soul rest in peace.
