Mphoko’s son up for rape

Bulawayo Bureau

FORMER Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko’s son Siqokoqela is expected to appear in a Bulawayo court today facing allegations of raping his 12-year-old niece following his arrest yesterday.

National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest.

“Siqokoqela Mphoko was this morning (yesterday) arrested by police in Bulawayo and will appear in court tomorrow (today). He was arrested over rape charges after he was alleged to have sexually assaulted his 12-year-old niece. The child’s mother is the one who reported the case, that is all we can release as information,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

Earlier yesterday morning, Siqokoqela posted a video on Ezra Tshisa Sibanda’s Facebook page saying he was handing himself over.

“Good morning to everybody, my name is Siqokoqela Mphoko. A praying man, a God-fearing man and a family man. Today . . . Yesterday (Tuesday) actually, I was called to the Hillside Police Station and a rape charge laid against me.

“No investigations were done, but that’s still fine. Yesterday, I ran away from the police station because I felt that there was no fairness in my case. I felt that things were not done properly and I felt that there was a hand behind it that is not Government,” he said.

“I believe in the judiciary system, so now I’m on my way to Hillside Police Station to hand myself in as we speak.”
