Mpilo Hospital reconnected

The fault had affected the hospital, which resorted to using generators.

In an interview yesterday, Mpilo chief executive officer Dr Wedu Ndebele confirmed the reconnection.

“The fault did not affect the hospital only but surrounding areas. We have been reconnected although power continuously goes on and off,” said Dr Ndebele.

In a statement, Zesa western region manager Mr Lovemore Chinaka said parts of Makokoba, Mzilikazi and Lobengula Street had also been affected by the fault.

“We do confirm that there was a fault that affected Mpilo Central Hospital and surrounding areas on Sunday evening. A high voltage (11kV) underground cable fault occurred resulting in interruption of supplies to the hospital.

“Parts of the affected areas were restored last night together with Mpilo Central Hospital. ZETDC technicians were working on an alternative line that can be used to supply Mpilo when a fault occurs, hence the delay in restoring power to the hospital,” said Mr Chinaka.
