Lawmakers are today gathering at the state-of-the-art multipurpose hall in the new Parliament Building for a comprehensive half-day workshop focused on the State Service (Pensions) Bill.

This pivotal event will provide Members of Parliament with an opportunity to engage in an in-depth examination of the proposed legislation.

The workshop aims to facilitate interactive discussions and presentations, allowing MPs to scrutinise the Bill’s content, ask critical questions, and share their perspectives.

By fostering informed debate, the session ensures that legislators are well-equipped to contribute meaningfully to the Bill’s discussion and eventual passage in Parliament.

The State Service (Pensions) Bill seeks to establish a State Service Pension Fund to guarantee that public sector employees enjoy a decent standard of living upon retirement.

The proposed fund will cover the payment of pensions, gratuities, and other retirement benefits for individuals employed by the State.

This initiative aligns with the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) standards on social security, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to ensuring financial security for retired State employees.

The outcome of today’s workshop is expected to shape the future discourse on the Bill, ultimately influencing policy decisions that will impact thousands of State employees.
