FIVE people have appeared in court facing allegations of stealing nearly US$3 900 from a safe at a Mabvuku night club owned by a legislator, Cde Patricia Kundhlande.
The quintet — Kelvin Zulu (20), Tinotenda Marecha (26), Portia Ngorima (34), Pretty Ngorima (21) and Mike Vheremu (21) — appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo on Wednesday charged with theft.
Prosecutors allege that on April 20 at around 12.30am, Zulu, who reportedly had access to the safe keys, teamed up with an accomplice, Washington Sithole, who is still at large, and stole cash from the safe at Mother Sharks Night Club in New Mabvuku.
The court heard that Marecha, a taxi driver, was waiting nearby in a Toyota Aqua to ferry the suspects from the scene. Portia and Pretty Ngorima allegedly assisted by carrying a bag belonging to Sithole into the taxi before fleeing.
It is further alleged that Marecha drove off with Sithole and the two women, leaving Zulu at the scene. The pair were later dropped off at their residences after allegedly receiving US$20 each as their share.
