Midlands State University law students will for the second consecutive year represent Zimbabwe in the Jean Pictet International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition to be held in Sintra, Portugal from March 1 to 8, this year.The MSU team is comprised of three law students – Melusi Moyo, a final year student; Daphne Maruta, a fourth year student’ and Vusumuzi Bhebhe, a third year student.
International Committee of the Red Cross spokesperson Mr Tendai Sengwe, whose organisation is sponsoring the trip, said ICRC supports the teaching of international humanitarian law.
He said it makes Zimbabweans aware of the existence of rules that protect civilians and other vulnerable groups in war situations.
“We support the teaching of humanitarian law at universities.
“This is because it has an impact on future decision-making because these students will become judges, magistrates and lawyers, and many other law practitioners” he said.
