Villagers in Ward 23 in Mt Darwin have appealed to Government for assistance in the construction of Nyamwinyu Primary School.
Children in the area travel up to 15km to either Mt Darwin or Ruya schools.
The villagers have so far constructed two classroom blocks at the site.
One of the blocks with four rooms is now at gable level, while the other is at slab level.
The villagers have approached the District Development Fund for assistance.
DDF chief planning officer Mr Knowledge Murenje said although they did not have a budget for construction of schools, they wanted their construction unit to assist at Nyamwinyu Primary School.
“Construction of the school started two years ago, but the major setback is funding,” he said.
“The school is an initiative of the community. After mobilising locally available resources, the community approached us through our permanent secretary.
“We don’t have a budget for the school, but we saw it fit to help them because we want the community to benefit.
“The school is at a central position from Mt Darwin and Ruya and will benefit eight villages that have a population of 200 families in each village. We sank a borehole at the school premises, which is also helping the surrounding villages.”
