MTHALA are the first team to book a place in the semi-finals of the Bulawayo Social Soccer League (BSSL) Founders Cup after edging Real Mkwee 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shootout in Pumula North on Sunday.

The quarter-final encounter ended 2-2 in regulation time before Mthala held their nerve from the spot to secure passage to the last four of the prestigious knockout competition.

The Founders Cup is the BSSL’s flagship annual tournament, bringing together more than 30 social teams from Bulawayo’s high-density suburbs. The competition honours the league’s founding figures, including pioneering administrator Chris Mhlanga, and has become one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the local social football calendar.

With Mthala safely through, attention now shifts to the remaining quarter-final fixtures scheduled for Sunday.
