Mubure finishes fifth in Holland

squash player when he finished fifth during an international tournament in Eindhoven, Holland, at the weekend, writes Collin Matiza.
Mubure (24), who left the country last Wednesday for a three-week stay in the Netherlands where he will be playing squash as a professional after joining the Professional Squash Association, was the only African player at this tournament.
And he did not disappoint as he finished a credible fifth overall.
Speaking from Eindhoven yesterday, Mubure said he received a first-round bye, which saw him being placed in the quarter-finals where he faced Dutchman Jard Baljet.
Mubure managed to stretch his more experienced opponent to five sets before he lost 11-9, 7-11, 11-6, 12-14 and 11-8.
After losing to Baljet, Mubure managed to restore “some lost pride” by beating Steven Finitsis 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-9) and James Jordens 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-9) to finish fifth overall.
The tournament’s winner was Finitsis who beat the Dutch number two Dylan Bennet 3- 0 (11-9,11-8 and 14-12) in the final.
Mubure said he now expects to play in a number of other international tournaments in Eindhoven and Amsterdam in the next few weeks.
He will also travel outside the Netherlands to play in more PSA tournaments in Belgium and Germany during his three-month stay in Europe.
This will enable him to get PSA points and a world ranking which he currently doesn’t have.
