Muchongwe engages lawyer

Court Reporter
Former Dynamos and Caps United player Edward Muchongwe (51) who is facing charges of robbery has sought legal help in his ongoing trial at the Mbare Magistrates’ Court.

Muchongwe’s trial was supposed to continue on Wednesday, but his lawyer Mr Michael Mandikumba of Chigwanda Legal practitioners indicated that he wanted to go through the State papers first before he could carry on with the case.

The magistrate Ms Jackie Manyonga deferred the matter to February 10 for continuation.

The prosecutor Ms Yvonne Gurira alleged that on January 9 this year, Muchongwe approached Majaka who is the general manager at CAPS holdings demanding his salary arrears.

Muchongwe, a general hand at the company, allegedly began slapping and punching Majaka after failure to reach an agreement over the salary issue.

Majaka is said to have sought protection from a company security guard but Muchongwe continued assaulting him.

Muchongwe allegedly dragged Majaka to his office while threatening to kill him.

The court heard that Majaka ended up surrendering $500 to Muchongwe who then went on to tell other employees that assaulting the general manager pays.
