Tendai Mugabe in Mudzi
Cde Magna Mudyiwa will represent Zanu-PF in the Mudzi West by-elections slated for July 17 following her victory in primary elections held in the constituency on Monday.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Cde Aquiline Katsande in March this year. Cde Mudyiwa, who has been working in the Office of the President and Cabinet since 1981, beat four other prospective candidates after garnering 7 464 votes.
Her closest rival Cde Kumbirai Magauze polled 906 followed by Cde Lovemore Svosve, who got 640 votes. Other contestants Cdes Christopher Musa and Samuel Mlambo got 336 and 247 votes respectively.
Zanu-PF Youth League secretary Cde Pupurai Togarepi presided over the elections.
Speaking to The Herald after the announcement of the results, Cde Mudyiwa thanked the people of Mudzi for their overwhelming support and having confidence in her capabilities.
Cde Mudyiwa said she would initiate several projects that would benefit mostly the youths and women in Mudzi if she prevailed on July 17. “Mudzi West lags behind virtually in everything in terms of development,” she said.
“This is a dry region and women in this area walk almost 10km to access clean drinking water. One of my priorities is to sink boreholes in the area. If resources permit, my wish is to sink a borehole in every village and repair some that are not working,” said Cde Mudyiwa.
“In terms of education, we have few secondary schools here and I wish is to see construction of several secondary schools as soon as possible to cut down on walking distances.”
Some of the projects that she proposed are poultry, gardening and piggery.
