MUFAKOSE 1 High School is celebrating being awarded the Secretary’s Bell for the Year 2022.

The school head, David Varayayi, said the achievement was dedicated to the staff and students.

The school has deservedly earned a reputation of academic and sporting excellence.

On the sporting field, the school has also achieved notable results.

The badminton, korfball and soccer teams have participated in international games.

The staff complement of 95 teachers boasts of highly professionally qualified teachers.

The school offers a rich curriculum that meets the demands of the 21st century.

“As the head, l cannot claim sole credit for this achievement we celebrated on Friday, 28 February 2025,  without paying tribute to my predecessors who provided the foundation that l was able to build on with the support and commitment of the staff.

“As an individual, l have always been driven by ambition, enduring principles and solid values of excellence and teamwork.

“The 20/70 principle for O-Level students and 20/100 principle for A-Level students that l strongly believe in has over the years yielded impressive results.“In addition, the 3T principle is our slogan – Teach,Talk and Test.

“This guides the interaction between teachers and learners in the classroom. As a result, a conducive learning and teaching environment is fostered. It is from such a rich environment that the high pass rates are born.

“Ever since the school opened its doors to learners way back in 1970, enrolment of students has consistently gone up.

“Both O’ and A’ level examination results have been consistently impressive over the years.

“I am also happy to say the SDC has over the years actively supported the infrastructure development projects at the school.

“The school now has a well-resourced computer lab, refurbished staffroom, a solar system, a school bus, water tanks, adequate furniture and income-generating projects.

“This leaves me to thank all members of Mufakose 1 High School for contributing to this achievement that we are celebrating.

“It is my conviction that we have just started. We still have a long way to go for as they say, the sky is the limit.”

The District Schools Inspector, Claud Nyambuya, said the school has been consistent in its progress.

“The district has noted with deep appreciation over the years the progress the school has been making.

“It is our hope that this is maintained and that all the schools in the district take a leaf from Mufakose 1 High success.

“I am reliably informed that the school, under the competent and visionary leadership of Mr Vurayayi, has initiated and introduced several developmental programmes and projects that have resulted in the impressive pass rates both at O’ and A’ Level ever since he joined the school in 2018.

“The exceptional academic results and the infrastructural development have enhanced the reputation of the school not just in the district but nationwide.

“Mufakose 1 High School has indeed become the preferred brand.

“You have set the bar high and, no doubt, all the schools in the district will be motivated and inspired to always raise their standards,” he said.
