Police have launched an investigation into the alleged rape of a teenager by her uncle five years ago after seeing a video circulating on Global DNA Zimbabwe hosted by Tinashe Mugabe.

The video revealed the woman’s disturbing testimony of being raped by her uncle.  In the video, the victim, who is now 19, alleged that she was raped by her uncle while she was 14.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that investigations were underway.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has taken note of a video by Tinashe Mugabe DNA Show episode circulating on social media platforms in which a 19 year old woman was allegedly raped by her uncle at the age of 14.

“In the video, the victim was allegedly sexually assaulted after a football match when the suspect gave her beer. The Zimbabwe Republic Police assures the public that investigations into the allegations are being conducted for the law to take its course,” he said.

Meanwhile, in another video circulating on social media in which two police officers are wrestling with a motorist in Masvingo, the police have put it on record that the suspect, who was driving a Nissan Vannette, registration number AEL 6423, evaded a police roadblock at the 1km peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road near Craft Centre where he was stopped for traffic offences.

Comm Nyathi said a member of the public assisted the police with his private car to pursue the suspect to Flo Garages, Masvingo, where the suspect became confrontational and violent towards the police while recording a video.

Police subsequently arrested the suspect.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores the public to desist from being confrontational with the police so as to raise false allegations as a way to attract public sympathy,” Comm Nyathi said.
