Zanu-PF’s Mashonaland West Women’s League has elected a new leadership led by Cde Joyce Mukazhi, a move meant to bolster the wing ahead of the upcoming harmonised elections.

Twenty-nine executive members voted for the new leadership at the party’s provincial offices in Chinhoyi on Saturday.

The new chairperson, Cde Mukazhi, who took over from Cde Angeline Muchemei, won with 21 votes, while Cde Gladys Mulambilila and Cde Sibongile Hoshiki garnered four votes and one vote, respectively.

Cde Mary Phiri retained the post of the wing’s vice chairperson, while former treasurer Cde Martha Tafirenyika was elevated to the post of secretary.

Cde Mulambilila takes the treasurer’s post and Cde Kambuzuma is the new political commissar after taking over from Cde Nyarai Chasi.

In an interview yesterday, Cde Mukazhi promised to get rid of divisions within the Women’s League that were created by the G40 cabal.

“One of my top priorities is to combat divisions within the wing,” she said.

“There was a lot of infighting taking place within the Women’s League and that should cease immediately. We should be a united front.

“I also say hands up to all women, we want to hit the ground running.”

Cde Mukazhi said projects that were disturbed during the G40 era were set to be revived.

“We have a lot of projects that were being blocked by the unnecessary purging that was happening in the party,” she said.

“We are reviving those projects so that women start benefiting.”

Cde Mukazhi said the wing was fully behind President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership.

“As Mashonaland West Women’s League, we are fully rallying behind our President,” she said.

“We assure him of a landslide victory in the upcoming elections.”
