The company belongs to Minister of Water Resources Development and Management, Samuel Sipepa Nkomo, and was put under judicial management after he took over in August last year.
The company is located in Gwayi in Matabeleland North Province.
In April, some of the workers staged a demonstration in protest over their salaries.
In an interview, a worker who declined to be named for fear of victimisation, said now that the company was facing liquidation, their challenges would worsen.
“All along I have been struggling to pay for children’s school fees and rentals and I just think that things will get worse now that the company is facing liquidation.
“To make matters worse, we have not been paid for the past six months and we have been struggling to make ends meet. Some of us are now being threatened with eviction where we stay and we do not know how we are going to cope,” said the visibly annoyed man.
He said ever since Minister Sipepa Nkomo took over in August last year, things had generally turned from bad to worse.
Another worker, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said at one time management had promised to pay them when exports were cleared but wondered how that would happen as the company was now facing problems.
“Management had promised to pay us if the company’s major clients paid for products but nothing has been done ever since. We even increased exports but it has been quite a while now and we are still yet to receive our salaries,” he said.
Contacted for comment, Minister Sipepa Nkomo said he was not aware of such a development and referred this reporter to the judicial manager.
“I am not aware of such a development as no one has ever mentioned it to me. The company is under judicial management, so you have to talk to them. The fellow who is the manager is the one who runs the company.
“I cannot be commenting because under law, the judicial manager should. I am at a funeral at the moment and besides I do not know anything about that,” said Minister Sipepa Nkomo.
Efforts to get a comment from the judicial manager Mr Philip Ndlovu were fruitless as he was said to be out of his office attending a funeral.
