A VICTORIA Falls mother is accused of a shocking betrayal, allegedly concealing her 14-year-old daughter’s months-long ordeal of being repeatedly raped by her stepfather.
The teen (name withheld) was allegedly first sexually assaulted in June 2024 at her stepfather’s home in Dunu Village, Chief Mvuthu. The horror went on for months, with one incident even witnessed by the victim’s 10-year-old brother, who saw the abuse through a window.
The alleged abuse was only exposed on May 14, 2025, after the girl bravely confided in her aunt, who reported the matter, leading to the stepfather’s arrest.
The stepfather appeared before Victoria Falls Resident Magistrate Mr Gift Manyika on Saturday, charged with rape, and was remanded in custody until May 30.
Prosecutor Ms Audrey Mukanganya told the court the full, sickening details. On an unknown date in June 2024, the stepfather allegedly took the girl into a bedroom hut, locked the door, and threatened her with a knife.
“He then ordered the complainant to lie on the bed facing upwards and she complied,” Ms Mukanganya said. “The accused removed the complainant’s dress, undergarments and pulled the complainant’s legs apart. He pulled his shorts and underwear to knee level whilst pointing the complainant’s neck with a knife.”
The court heard the stepfather then forced himself on the girl. After the assault, the girl got dressed, and the stepfather unlocked the door.
The prosecutor revealed the abuse continued later the same day. Around 2.30pm, the stepfather allegedly repeated the act.
The girl’s mother returned home around 4pm, and the girl told her what happened. But, the court heard, the mother “chose to make it a secret.”
“From the period extending from June 2024 to 28 February 2025, the accused had sexual intercourse with the complainant several times on different occasions without her consent whenever her mother was not at home,” Ms Mukanganya said.
The case was only brought to light on May 11, 2025, when the girl spoke to her aunt.
The stepfather has been identified, and medical evidence confirms the rape occurred.
