IT is not looking good for Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi.
Wolves’ season continued to spiral after Fulham condemned them to another damaging defeat to keep them winless and bottom of the Premier League.
Ryan Sessegnon, Harry Wilson and Yerson Mosquera’s own goal ended the Cottagers’ four-game losing run, while Wolves’ Emmanuel Agbadou was sent off in the first half.
Munetsi and company did little to prove their wretched start would end in West London and have now lost eight of their 10 league games.
There is still belief at Molineux that boss Vitor Pereira can save the season — and a reluctance to sack him — but Wolves are now eight points from safety and being cut adrift.
Fulham piled on the misery when Sessegnon struck early, seizing on a mistake from Santi Bueno, and it got worse when Agbadou was dismissed nine minutes before half-time — after his clumsy foul on Josh King denied a goalscoring opportunity.
The visitors never recovered and Sam Johnstone denied Kenny Tete and Wilson but the Wales winger secured victory, which lifted the Cottagers to 14th, with a fine low finish from 20 yards.
There was still time for Mosquera to turn the ball into his own net with 15 minutes left to add to Wolves’ woes, before Samuel Chukwueze hit the bar late on for Marco Silva’s side.
Gunners march on
Premier League leaders Arsenal continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable win at Burnley to make it nine consecutive victories in all competitions.
Goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice sealed the win — their fifth in a row in the league — as Mikel Arteta’s side moved seven points clear at the top, albeit having played a game more than some of their rivals.
It was an impressive victory against a Burnley side that can often prove difficult to break down and had recorded back-to-back victories before facing the Gunners.
But no side has scored more goals from set-pieces than Arsenal this season and it was from one that they took the lead, Gyokeres firing in from close range from Rice’s corner.
Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka produced a one-handed save to deny Bukayo Saka, before Leandro Trossard had an effort cleared off the line. But Arsenal got their second before the break when Rice powerfully headed in Trossard’s chipped ball.
Defeat for Burnley means they are 17th, four points clear of the bottom three.
Man Utd drop points
Amad Diallo lashed home a thunderous 81st-minute volley to earn Manchester United a point in a thrilling Premier League encounter with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
The visitors thought they were heading for a fourth straight win and second spot in the table after Casemiro headed them into a half-time lead from a corner Forest were convinced should not have been awarded.
But the game turned on its head in the space of two second-half minutes as Forest skipper Morgan Gibbs-White outmuscled Amad to reach Ryan Yates’ deep cross from the right.
From their next attack, Forest scored again. Once more they created problems for United with a cross from the right as Nicolo Savona reacted fastest when Igor Jesus’ header bounced off bodies into the six-yard box, keeping his composure to beat United keeper Senne Lammens.
Amad might have won it but deep into stoppage time his shot was cleared off the line by Murillo.
Palace back to winning ways
Crystal Palace ended a three-match winless run in the Premier League with victory over in-form Brentford at Selhurst Park.
Jean-Philippe Mateta, who scored a hat-trick in Palace’s 3-3 draw with Bournemouth a fortnight ago, breathed life into a largely uneventful first half when he sent a brilliant looping header over Caoimhin Kelleher and into the far corner.
Things went from bad to worse for the Bees early in the second half when defender Nathan Collins inadvertently headed Jefferson Lerma’s long throw into his own net to give the home side a two-goal cushion.
Brighton back to wnning ways
Danny Welbeck scored for a third successive Premier League game as Brighton climbed into the top half of the Premier League table with a comfortable win over Leeds United.
The 34-year-old netted the opener for the hosts in the 11th minute, volleying home from close range to finish off a brilliant team move that involved Yankuba Minteh and Mats Wieffer.
Brighton took command after that, with Diego Gomez adding two more in six second-half minutes on his return to the starting line-up to seal a dominant success for Fabian Hurzeler’s side. — BBC Sport/ Zimpapers Sports Hub
