Munyamana eyes eighth Mr Bulawayo win

SEVEN time in a row Mr Bulawayo bodybuilding winner, Lovemore Munyamana is eyeing to make it eight wins in the prestigious competition which will be held at Bulawayo Theatre on Saturday.

Munyamana has been enjoying an impressive run that has seen him being crowned champion in seven consecutive years from 2012 to 2018 when the event was last held before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year’s event will be however different from the previous editions as it will be open to all Zimbabwean bodybuilders even if they are not from Bulawayo gyms.

“This time Mr Bulawayo competition will be open to all bodybuilders including those from neighbouring countries like South Africa. This time it is going to be interesting because Mr Bulawayo is going to be challenged by guys from across the country and outside the country,” said Simon Gama.

The seven time champion, who goes by the moniker “Black Dynamite” is also aware of the threats to his title that will be posed by athletes from outside the city but is however confident of defending the prestigious title.

One of the biggest threats for the 37-year old Munyamana is Edward “Gearbox” Mutero who was on Saturday crowned the 2022 Harare Classic bodybuilding champion.

“It’s going to be a tough show because South Africa based Mr Harare who was crowned last week is among those expected to challenge me,” said Munyamana.

The competition is sponsored by Trek Petroleum to the tune of US$10 000 and the show will be divided into six categories which are, senior men bodybuilding, women bikini fitness, junior men bodybuilding, men’s fitness, men’s physique and wheelchair men’s bodybuilding.

Winner in the senior men’ category will pocket US$1 000 while in women’s bikini fitness, the first prize is US$500 and the junior men winner will take home US$500 as well. Men’s fitness and physique winners will both take home US$500 and the wheelchair men’s category winner will also take home US$500.

Munyamana who only resumed training last month at Body Works Gym, promised his followers fireworks.

“My body will be in shape before the event as I am working hard in the gym. I’m confident I will retain my title despite the fact that the competion is now open to many body builders including those from outside the country,” said Munyamana. – @brandon_malvin
