A ZVISHAVANE man allegedly killed his wife and then hanged himself at his in-laws’ homestead following a domestic dispute triggered by the theft of his beast.Elliot Munikwa (44) of Nduna Village under Chief Masunda allegedly killed his wife Ntombizomuhlaba Mupami (44) on Monday and went on to hang himself in his mother in law’s kitchen hut.
Munikwa allegedly suspected that his wife and her mother had earlier stolen his beast.
Midlands Acting Police Spokesperson Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the couple’s death.
“I can confirm that we are investigating a murder case which occurred on Monday at Nduna Village, Chief Masunda in Zvishavane at around 5 PM where Munikwa killed his wife Mupami before hanging himself.
“It is alleged that, sometime in June this year, Munikwa’s beast was stolen by an unknown person but he suspected his wife and his 78 year old mother in law to be responsible,” she said.
Inspector Mukwende said on the fateful day, the couple visited Mupami’s mother Lyna Shumba, who later left them at home as she went to her garden which is about 100 metres away.
“Whilst she was there, she heard Mupami crying for help. Shumba called for assistance from neighbours and proceeded to her home where they found Mupami’s body lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her throat,” Assistant Insp Mukwende said.
She said when villagers decided to launch a manhunt for Munikwa, they found his body hanging in Shumba’s kitchen hut.
Inspector Mukwende urged people to respect the sanctity of human life and not to resort to violence to solve disputes.— @patiemtsiwi.
