THERE was joy today in Ward 6, Murehwa District, after the Government started distributing Pfumvudza/Intwasa inputs.

The inputs were given to those households or individuals who had prepared three plots and above.

Inputs included maize seed, fertilisers, as well as pesticides. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Professor Obert Jiri presided over the distribution process.

This was before he toured and inspected eight plots made by Mr and Mrs Madzimbamuto of Mavhurume Village in Ward 6, Murehwa district.

Prof Jiri assured farmers that more inputs are already on the way and encouraged people to join the programme.

“We are here to distribute Pfumvudza inputs and people from this ward are receiving inputs, that is, bags of fertilisers, a bag of seed, as farmers prepare for the start of the season,” he said.

“So inputs under Pfumvudza are distributed to those who had prepared their plots. I have also emphasised on the fact that those who receive these inputs under Pfumvudza/Intwasa must have contributed to the 10 kg token of appreciation to our President for supporting them.

“In the year of drought, the President supported them, in good years, the President supported them and it is only befitting for beneficiaries to thank the President by giving him a 10kg, which will be distributed as food aid to other vulnerable members of the community.”

He said the Government will continue supporting farmers and ensuring there is food security, starting at the household level.

Prof Jiri warned those who are in the habit of abusing inputs to desist from doing so. Mr Takesure Madzimbamuto, one of the beneficiaries, said they will continue working hard in their fields.

“I want to thank the President for always supporting us farmers. We joined this programme around 2019, and we had never gone hungry as a family,” he said..

“We are always getting good yields such that we even sent some to the Grain Marketing Board.”

Ms Otiwe Samuriwo, another beneficiary, said at first it was painful, but she is now enjoying the fruits of her labour.

“I am now used to this concept and will continue doing the practice. We want to commend the Government and President Mnangagwa for the support,” she said.

“Today I received inputs. I already made eight plots. I am only waiting for the rains.”
