Muripo said everything was in place now and preparations have been progressing well.
“We are doing well though the going is quite tough, vigorous, demanding and very expensive financially. We have been focusing on endurance, weight training, extreme conditioning, bag workouts and technique sharpening.
“For the remaining four weeks we will be concentrating on technique fine-tuning, bag workouts, highly sparring drills and body conditioning,” said Muripo.
The Kyokushin Union of Zimbabwe technical director said he is ready to go and battle it out with some of the world’s best karatekas.
“We are going for a more or less-like a world war event but World Kyokushin Karate tournament. It is not a world of pleasure but of extreme suffering that only one who endures right through will be truly awarded.
“Personally, I am raring to be one of the two to the finals if God the Almighty is on my side,” said Muripo.
His team-mate, Muhambi, said the involvement of all kyokushin styles in the team’s training session have been of great assistance to the two karatekas.
“So far we have done so well in conditioning and fitness. There are just a few technical issues we need to clear up.
“We have been doing squad training, all different kyokushin were coming and supporting the sessions. When you are mixed its so good because we are trying to form one kyokushin team in Zimbabwe.
“We have been through with conditioning where we were trying to make the body resistant to pain and the attacks. The most important thing we are working on now is how to apply techniques and speed,” said Mugove.
Mugove who is from kyokushinkan style said the coming together of the kyokushin styles to form a team that will represent Zimbabwe in Japan is a positive move on the development and growth of the styles.
“To me it’s the greatest thing we have done and achieved.
“Mainly there were factions because one will always say their style is better than the other. We have realised that coming together means Zimbabwe will be better in the future.”
“For instance, Russia have different kyokushin styles but they always come together when they go and participate in international events and you won’t notice. They have good and fierce fighters.
“I think it’s going to be better for us as well,” Muhambi said.
