competition, which has been held since the 1980’s. Rautenbach, who plays for City Bowling, believes he will be able to compete.
“I am very happy to be part of the tournament, this is my first time to play the country’s best players and am looking forward to it.
“It might be hard for me to win but I will take the game as it comes,” said Rantenbach.
The are 16 teams taking part have five players each. Gynn Bithell, the tournament organiser, said the turnout was excellent and they were looking forward to a successful tournament.
“We have a good turnout and it is going it be exciting for players. Our tournament has been sponsored by a number of individuals and companies,” said Bithell.
One of Zimbabwe’s top bowlers, Roy Garden, who will lead the national team on the tour of Australia for World Bowling Championships to held next month, said they were happy to take part in the tourney. He is representing Highlands Sports Club together with Tom Craven, Manuel Silva, Richie Hayden and Clive Robertson.
“This will be our last competition in the country before we leave and we just want to use this tournament as warm-up event.
“We are going to have put more time to practising and we will have eight days in Adelaide.
“Our greens are slower than the ones in Australia,” said Garden.
