THE annual Musabvunda half-marathon and family fun day will be held at Blakiston Junior Primary School on May 10, with organisers anticipating a significant increase in participation.
The family and fun day will see athletes taking part in the 3km, 5km, 10km, and the 21km races.
Following last year’s successful event, which drew over 2 500 individuals, this year’s edition aims to double that number, expecting at least 5 000 participants.
Running under the theme “Running for Wellness,” the race will mark its fourth successive year.
The event, scheduled for May 10, will feature both competitive and recreational runners vying for medals, hampers and cash prizes.
Adding to the excitement, prominent local musicians are set to provide entertainment after the race.
Event founder and organiser Kudzai Pasipanodya expressed his optimism that they will achieve their targets.
“The preparations are going very well, and we are expecting a huge turnout of at least 5 000 participants because the event is a combination of the marathon and a family fun day,” he said.
“We will be having a lot of activities after the marathon.
“We will have kids’ games like jumping castles, we will also have sporting activities like power-lifting and snooker throughout the day.”
On the entertainment aspect, Pasipanodya said: “We will also have entertainment from a number of musicians such as Silent Killer, Voltz TJ and Baba Harare, among others. So it’s going to be a day full of excitement.”
