Musariri retains regional freight post

Mr Musariri will be deputised by Ms Valerie Sesia of Zambia, who was elected vice president, replacing Mr David Watts from South Africa.
Other members of the executive committee include committee members Edward Kaluwa of Malawi, Ali Afzal Delbar of Mauritius, Edward Urio of Tanzania, Guy Kimenyembo of the DRC and Philip Wylie of South Africa.
Mr Musariri is the inaugural president of the federation after he was elected during the launch of the federation in Lusaka, Zambia, on April 29, 2010.
Apart from the election of office bearers, the AGM also discussed a business plan for the industry that is being crafted by the federation in association with Trademark of South Africa.
“We also reviewed our five-year draft plan which was put together by a working group drawn from our membership.
“We intend to use the plan to direct us during the next five years,” he said.
The plan, he added, would be used to source funding for various programmes based on five key areas.
These include strategic focus, high level advocacy, research, documentation and information dissemination, membership support and development, partnerships and networking and institutional strengthening.
In terms of strategic focus, Mr Musariri said they were looking at signing Memorandum of Understanding with key regional bodies such as Sadc, Comesa and the East African Community.
“We will be prioritising issues that impact on supply chain and clearing and freight forwarding industry.
“In this regard we will be scheduling high level forums to address existing priorities and emerging issues in the form of public-private sector and business to business dialogue,” he said.
Fourteen national associations drawn from 11 of the 14 Sadc states that make up the federation attended the AGM.
The 14 associations were drawn from Angola, Botswana, DRC, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
